13th Support Group Meeting

Support Group Meeting #13 was held on June 25, 2019, at 630PM at the University of Miami Hospital U-Health Tower, in room 2026, the Board of Directors' meeting room. Refreshments were served with a 4th of July theme to make the meeting more festive.

There were 26 people in attendance at this support group meeting, 8 of which were patients and 5 were caregivers. Everyone seemed to enjoy our speaker and participated in the discussion.

Floribeth Arrautt, MSW, LCSW was our speaker this month. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker/Psychotherapist and works in the Digestive Health Department at the University of Miami Hospitals and Clinics. Her topic was: “Carrying an Anxious Mood and an Ostomy Bag”

Some of the highlights of her presentation were: How Psychological Interventions Help, Brain-Gut Connection, Mindfulness Therapy, Benefits of Practicing Mindfulness, Mindfulness Training, Breathing and Mindfulness Meditation.

Our next support group meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 23rd at the UM U-Health Tower, room 2026 at 630PM. We are looking forward to our speaker, Lea Crestodina, ARNP, CWOCN, CDE, Director of Wound, Ostomy, Continence Department at Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood. FL. Her topic will be “Living With A Stoma: Pouch Concealment”. We look forward to seeing you next month.
