23rd Support Group Meeting
Support Group Meeting #23 was held on July 28, 2020, at 6:30 P.M. It was our third Zoom VIRTUAL meeting and we were very honored to have Dr. Mark L. Gonzalgo, noted professor of urology and associate director for clinical affairs at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, as our speaker.
Dr. Gonzalgo is a highly respected, board-certified, fellowship-trained urologic oncologist with expertise in open and robotic surgical approaches for the treatment of prostate, bladder and kidney cancers. Before coming to the UM from Stanford, he served as Director of Robotic-Assisted Urologic Cancer Surgery and was one of the most experienced urologic oncologists on the west coast in robotic surgery. He was previously on the faculty at Johns Hopkins where he was Associate Professor of Urology and Director of the Fellowship Program in Urologic Oncology at The Brady Urological Institute and completed a fellowship in urologic oncology at Memorial Sloan- Kettering Cancer Center. He is a recognized expert in DNA methylation and is particularly interested in developing new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for cancer detection treatment. Dr. Gonzalgo has been recognized as a Top Doctor by U.S. News & World Report and is a member of the scientific advisory board of the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network (BCAN).
We cannot thank Dr. Gonzalgo enough for taking time out of his busy schedule to give us his amazing presentation. Those patients who attended this meeting were really happy that they were able to listen and learn from a man of Dr. Gonzalgo’s caliber.
Our next Virtual Support Group Meeting will be held on August 25th where Theresa Johnson, Co-Founder of Stomagienics, will be our speaker. We hope you will join us then.
